DIGITAL PROJECTION DISPLAY FULL RANGE OF DIGIMAX™ CINEMA PROJECTORS AT CINEXPO
Company Also Announced The Continued Success of World's First Digital Theatre
Manchester,
UK. June 26th 2001 - Digital Projection International (DPI) - a wholly
owned subsidiary of IMAX Corporation - today announced that the
DIGIMAX™ range of digital cinema projectors will displayed at Cinexpo
on booth 229-232. The projectors, based on DLP Cinema™ technology by
Texas Instruments, are the leading display platform for theatres,
postproduction facilities and screening rooms equipped to provide
digital cinema programming. DPI is the only digital projection company
to provide customers with a variety of models suited for the varied
needs of the industry.
The
company also announced the success of the first commercial digital
theatre worldwide, 6 months after it's opening. The T-JOY Cinema
Complex in Hiroshima installed a DIGIMAX unit in December 2001, and
since then the 6 screen multiplex has reported excellent technical
performance and reliability which is essential as the DIGIMAX unit is
utilized for seven shows a day. The T-JOY cinema also reported a rise
in theatre occupancy to 25% compared to 15-20% in conventional
Japanese. T-JOY has committed to further DIGIMAX installations in 6
cinema multiplexes across Japan.
The
three DIGIMAX models on show at Cinexpo include one featuring a
standard lamp cabinet, similar to those used with traditional film
projectors. This model is of comparable design to the projection
systems installed in the Texas Instruments/ Technicolor/ Disney pilot
digital cinema network.
Also
available only from DPI is a "transportable" model based on a
self-contained hydraulic lift system and compact lamp housing. These
features allow users to easily move, set-up and install the
high-performance projector in a variety of venues. This model was
developed to adapt to diverse projection environments and to provide
increased mobility and flexibility when used as the only digital
projector in a within a multiplex.
The
third DPI exclusive is an "ultra portable" version, that was designed
to rest on a "table-top" platform, will be available for smaller
screens and space-restrictive display environments such as
postproduction facilities and screening rooms. It employs the most
compact lamp housing available today.
"Movie
theaters using DIGIMAX projectors are already seeing real benefits. We
are delighted with the news from the T-JOY Cinema complex in Hiroshima,
and will work closely with T-JOY to ensure this success in continued ."
said Mike Blackburn, Digital Projection's international director,
digital media and cinema products. "Digital Projection has the largest
range of DIGIMAX digital cinema projectors than any other manufacturer,
we can cater for any users' needs."
Digital
Projection made digital cinema history in December 2000 when its
DIGIMAX projectors were delivered to the T-Joy theaters in Japan,
marking the first-ever commercial sale of a projector based on DLP
Cinema™ technology.
