DIGITAL PROJECTION INTERNATIONAL WINS ORDER FOR 100 BESPOKE DIGITAL ADVERTISING PROJECTION SYSTEMS
Manchester,
UK. 8th March 2002: Digital Projection International (DPI), the world
leading digital projection manufacturer based in Manchester, today
announced the order for 100 bespoke DLP™ projection systems, to provide
the first moving cross-track advertising on London Underground
platforms. This landmark order, the result of a consortium between DHJ,
DPI and Ferrograph, heralds the future of advertising. This project
further helps to reinforce the groundbreaking development and
innovation associated with DPI over the years. The projection systems
will deliver state-of-the-art digital video and data images in place of
the traditional static billboards.
DPI
has developed a projection system designed specifically for the
demanding London Underground environment, integrating the stunning
image quality and operational simplicity for which it is renowned. The
XGA resolution 3-chip DLP™ data/video projector has a class leading
lumen output efficiency and is designed to the highest possible safety
standards. Each unit incorporates specialised optical & electrical
image correction to illuminate a 4m x 3m curved screen on the tunnel
wall. The mounting point is high up in the ceiling of the tunnel to
avoid existing signage, lighting & cabling.
This
substantial order will be delivered in two phases. The first
installation is for a small number of units at Euston station in April
2002. The remainder will be in operation by June 2002 in twenty prime
London locations. The concept has already been successfully
demonstrated to other key potential clients over the last six months
with a very promising response.
Dermot
Quinn, Development Director of DPI commented, "Digital Projection
International is industry renowned for its commitment to image quality.
This was a vital criteria for all the partners in this project, as was
DPI's willingness and ability to work on an application specific
product, with flexibility of design approach as the project developed."
Brian
Critchley, Managing Director of Digital Projection International
commented, "We are delighted to be the provider of projection systems
for such a major, ground breaking, new venture in the London
Underground. DPI has an outstanding record of product innovation and
meeting the very demanding technical and safety requirements of the
London Underground system again demonstrates our unique capability."
