PROJECTION INTERNATIONAL TAKES DIGITAL CINEMA A SIGNIFICANT STEP
FORWARD WITH THE FIRST COMMERCIAL DEMONSTRATION OF A DC2K PROJECTOR IN
JAPAN
Digital
Projection Cinema™ followed the world's first commercial DLP Cinema™
installation in December 2000 with the world's first commercial
demonstration of a cS25 projector in 2003
MANCHESTER,
UK (July 23, 2003) – Digital Projection International and its joint
venture partner NEC Viewtechnology Ltd. are proud to announce they have
carried out the first commercial demonstration of the cS25 projection
system in Tokyo, Japan. The cS25 is the first commercial projector
utilising the new higher resolution Texas Instruments DC2K DMD offering
over 2 million pixels. The demonstration was arranged in conjunction
with our Japanese distributor, TOSHIBA DENKO and was held at the Togeki
theatre, owned by SHOCHIKU, in Ginza, Tokyo, Japan.
"We
are extremely proud to have been involved in the two significant world
firsts within the Digital Cinema market. In December 2000 we sold and
installed the first ever Digital Cinema projector and have followed
this up with the world's first commercial demonstration of the DC2K
unit. It demonstrates that Digital Projection is committed to
innovation and is 100% behind the development of this significant
market place, worldwide", said Brian Critchley, CEO, Digital Projection
International.
DPI's
digital cinema projectors display high quality fully approved SMPTE
digital images delivered via local servers or satellite to delight the
world's cinema audiences. The benefits of continuous quality ease of
distribution and lower costs of production are well known.
Mr.
Critchley continued: " We are very pleased to be working with our JV
partners NEC Viewtechnology Ltd. and our Japanese distributor, TOSHIBA
DENKO. They have demonstrated the vision and commitment to continuously
embrace the latest technology and offer their customers the world's
best cinema images. They are committed to exploit the commercial
potential in Digital Cinema and Digital Projection International is
excited to play a key role in this important cinematic milestone.
Digital
Cinema or D-Cinema refers to conventional movie theatres replacing 35mm
film prints and film-based projectors with movies encoded as digital
data that are projected using digital projectors. This transformation
will allow for consistently higher quality images and cheaper
distribution and production costs compared to the creation and
distribution of film prints. Digital Projection International will
continue to lead this drive for improvement and change.
