Auckland, New Zealand
-- April 7th 2005 -- MediaSys Limited announce that Hillsong Church
of Sydney, Australia installed a LIGHTNING 35HD to compliment their
existing pair of Lightning 28sx projectors in the 3,500 seat Convention
Centre located in the Sydney northwest suburb of Baulkham Hills.
DPI's
3-chip DLP™ LIGHTNING 35HD projector is utilised in a front-projection
configuration onto a 14m wide screen located above the centre stage.
Control and source formatting is handled, via a 50 metre fibre optic
link, by the MMS1000 control unit located in the gantry
of the auditorium. With more than 18,000 worshippers on
any given weekend, Hillsong Church is considered to be Australia's
largest church, and its consistent growth over the years has created
the need for an auditorium supported by the very latest technology
to bring Hillsong's message to 180 countries throughout
the world. The church utilises the LIGHTNING projectors
to provide colourful visuals for its multiple worship services, special
events and other activities such as music concerts and conventions.
For its Sunday
worship services, Hillsong Church projects live digital-camera feeds,
song words and computer-graphics support. Additionally,
the services are streamed live on the church's website to an average
of 16,500 viewers each month.
DPI's projectors
were selected for many reasons, according to the church staff. Adequate
brightness was critical and with over 52,000 ANSI Lumens of
projection power on hand, the 3,500-plus-seat sanctuary is
enveloped in stunning images even with normal levels of ambient light.
Also, the projectors had to be proven
and reliable, since they will be used for extended periods of time. With
more than two years reliable service from the current Lightning
28sx's, Hillsong felt Digital Projection was a brand they could trust
and rely on. Another key factor was the common lamp unit used by both
the existing Lightning 28sx's and the new 35HD giving an extra degree
of flexibility and redundancy. With over 20,000 ANSI lumens, 2048x1080
resolution and over 4 Trillion on screen colours, the LIGHTNING 35HD
is the projector of choice for some of the world's most widely viewed
televised events such as the 2004 Oscars®, Grammy's® and
Democratic and Republican National Conventions, First Baptist Church
Woodstock and many other houses of worship worldwide.
"Our projection system is pivotal
in delivering the message of our senior pastors Brian and
Bobbie Houston and other staff members of Hillsong Church in a dynamic
way to the congregation",
according to Ian Anderson, Hill song's Lighting Director. "Our
time scale was incredibly short" said Anderson. "With a major
week long conference quickly approaching, we needed to choose, order
and install the Lightning 35HD within a mater of weeks. We could not be
more pleased with MediaSys's and Digital Projections service, speed and
help with installing the Lightning in time for the conference", said
Anderson. "These
projectors imaging quality and versatility make them an exceptional
support element and communications tool for our large scale venue."
"It's certainly
been a pleasure to work with Hillsong Church and Ian Anderson, their
lighting consultant," said Andy Milne, Managing Director, MediaSys
Limited, New Zealand distributor of Digital Projection. "We
knew how important the audiovisual element in the convention centre
is and were able to deliver within the time frame. It is a pleasure
to be a part of building a truly magnificent venue for Australia."
DPI's high-performance
projectors are the choice of many worship facilities, including Fellowship
Baptist Church in Dallas; Grace Church in Eden Prairie, Minn.; Southland
Christian Church in Lexington, Ky.; and West Los Angeles Church in
Los Angeles.
