KENNESAW, GA, (March 6, 1998)
- Digital
Projection announced today that NBC Broadcast Operations has purchased
the company's all-digital, high-end multimedia projectors for use on
NBC's "Nightly News with Tom Brokaw" as well as "Dateline NBC" and "NBC
News At Sunrise."
"Digital Projection has long recognized the benefits POWER
Displays offer to broadcast applications and we're thrilled to provide
NBC with projectors that utilize the very best technology available to
this market," said Mike Levi, Digital Projection's president of North
American operations.
According to Gary Cooper, NBC technical manager for Nightly News, a 5000-ANSI lumen POWER
5dv is rear-mounted on the Nightly News' 6 by 8-ft. video screen and
will project live video and composite graphics during the network's
newscasts.
"Brightness is such a key factor and with this new projection
technology we are actually turning the light output down. Since we can
actually run at lower lamp levels, we now have plenty of room for more
brightness and color saturation if we need it," said Cooper
"Maintaining accurate color temperature, luminance and color uniformity
are constant concerns for the broadcast community. Any variations in
these parameters dramatically impact the quality of the projected image
as seen through the broadcast camera eye," Levi added. "Our POWER Displays demonstrate precise color and luminance characteristics across the entire screen. In fact, POWER
Displays project images with a color depth nearly equivalent to that of
the human eye. CRTs, video walls and other light-valve projection
technologies can not compare to the look of a POWER Display when used on camera."
POWER Displays have already been utilized for ABC News and America's Funniest Home Videos.
Our next generation projection technology will continue to emphasize
the performance attributes this industry demands, said Levi.
Digital Projection's POWER Displays utilize proprietary signal processing, illumination, and optical technology. Every POWER
Display produces non-pixelated, film-like images with luminance
uniformity greater than 90 percent, all delivered from factory
preconverged image modulators that require no maintenance.
Driven by a powerful Xenon arc lamp that maximizes light output, each POWER Display produces the bright, crisp images required for projects with considerable ambient light. Producing
up to 5000 ANSI lumens, the projectors accept all video formats and
standards as well as all computer sources with resolution up to 1024 x
768.
The POWER Displays
line of projectors is a result of seven years of revolutionary
development between Digital Projection and Texas Instruments®. POWER
Displays represent the highest-level execution of Texas Instruments'
3-chip, Digital Light Processing™ (DLP) technology. Digital
Projection's worldwide presence includes offices in North America,
England, Europe and the Far East. Its North
American headquarters, based in Atlanta, is a wholly owned subsidiary
of Digital Projection, Limited, located in Manchester, England. The company's North American headquarters are located at 55 Chastain Road, Suite 115, Kennesaw, GA 30144.
