Digital Projection, Inc. (DPI) – a wholly owned subsidiary of Imax
Corporation (Nasdaq:IMAX; TSE:IMX) – today announced it has joined with
the world's digital cinema (D-Cinema) leaders to demonstrate components
that comprise “end-to-end” systems at ShoWest 2000 (Las Vegas, Bally's
Hotel, March 6–9, 2000, Rooms 4 & 5).
The
workshops will offer theatre owners, studios and ShoWest attendees the
opportunity to review the most current technologies in digital
projection, compression, encryption, server and storage, audio, live
entertainment and theatre design.
The Digital Cinema Technology Workshop and Symposium
will include featured panels and demonstrations by DemoGraFX, Digital
Vision, Dolby, Electrosonic, Grass Valley Group, Harkness Hall,
Immersion Studios, LJ Technologies, Qualcomm, QuVIS, Sonics and event
sponsor Digital Projection, Inc.
Panel moderators include Jerry Pierce, Universal Studios (Compression & Encryption);
Matt Cowan, Entertainment Technology Consultants (Digital Server); and Sam Giordano,
AMC Theatres (Audio & Theatre Design).
“DP's
technology symposium at ShoWest will provide show attendees an
outstanding opportunity to experience the key components that will
comprise the ‘end to end' digital cinema system. The
details of compression, encryption, server and storage technology,
projection and digital audio will be experienced first-hand through
integrated demonstrations, presented by the companies harnessing
technology to serve the needs of the entertainment industry,” said Mike
Levi, president of Digital Projection's North American operations.
Also
included in the symposium will be demonstrations of interactive
entertainment and live-captured & digitally created HDTV content
onto a 24-ft. screen via a Digital Projection LIGHTNING 15sx
projector. Based on Texas Instruments Digital Light Processing (DLP™)
SXGA (1280 x 1024) imaging technology, the 15sx is the most advanced,
high resolution digital display available for screening rooms,
postproduction facilities, campus & independent theatres.
