DIGITAL PROJECTION INC. SUPPORTS 6th ANNUAL BLOCKBUSTER® AWARDS WITH ADVANCED HIGH PERFORMANCE PROJECTION TECHNOLOGY
KENNESAW, GA, (May 23, 2000)
- Digital Projection, Inc. (DPI) – a wholly owned subsidiary of Imax Corporation (Nasdaq:IMAX; TSE:IMX) – today announced the recent taped-for-television Blockbuster® Awards utilized 20 of its ultra-bright
projection systems for the production's enormous set. American Hi
Definition (AHD), a leader in professional AV staging events, supplied
the projectors for the popular broadcast, which will air June 20
(8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on the FOX network. This year's show recognized
Pierce Brosnan, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Adam Sandler as well as many
musical acts for their cinematic contributions. The massive set design
– constructed at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles – incorporated 20
DPI POWER & LIGHTNING Displays for video playback,
set “wall paper” and live image magnification of presenters and
performers to ensure the prestigious crowd enjoyed each performance
with “bigger than life” imagery.
“Blockbuster Entertainment Awards sets itself apart from other award shows by its unique set. The
set itself is comprised of several digital projectors, so rather than
changing pieces of scenery for different acts, we change visuals. The end result is visually compelling. Brightness
and clarity are of obvious importance on network television shows, and
these projectors achieve this to perfection,” said Angela Fairhurst,
Producer Ken Ehrlich Productions/Blockbuster Entertainment Awards.
The set incorporated more than a dozen large screens ranging in size from 6-ft. x 8-ft to 18-ft. x 24-ft. When complemented with dramatic stage lighting techniques, the resulting creation was an “amazing wall of color and light.”
“Digital
Projection's displays are renowned as the industry reference for
broadcast and staging/rental applications,” said Erez Ram, owner of
AHD. “The company is recognized as the only projection manufacturer to
be honored with Emmy®
Awards for engineering development and its products are well-suited to
deliver high impact, ultra-high-bright imagery on any size screen for
televised programming.” DPI's brand of high performance POWER, LIGHTNING and HIGHlite
Displays includes projectors that can produce more than 12,000 ANSI
lumens with native resolutions up to SXGA (1280 x 1024) for astonishing
large-audience imagery from any video, computer or HDTV source. The
company's projectors have been used for every major televised broadcast
awards program including the Emmy's®, Grammy's®, Oscar's® and American Music Awards.
“It sometimes seems as if there's no major show business event in the world where projectors based on DLP™
technology from Digital Projection aren't being used," commented Sherel
Horsley, Senior Vice President and Product manager for TI's Digital
Imaging division. "The combination of the inherent manageability of DLP™
technology and Digital Projection's acknowledged expertise in
developing projection solutions for broadcast and entertainment
applications is proving to be a winner at high profile events like the
Blockbuster® Awards ceremony where the quality of the projected image is vitally important.”
