Special Financing Option Announced For DPI Projectors

Digital Projection is pleased to announce the return of our popular Six Months Same as Cash financing program!

For the first time in years, Stagers and End-Users purchasing Digital Projection displays can utilize the projectors for the first six months, while DP covers 100% of the cost of interest. At the end of the six months, customers can either pay-off the remaining balance, or finance the balance over the next 18 or 30 months at a rate of prime plus 1%. In either case, all of the interest for the first six months is at DP's expense.

New Extended Warranty Option Available For All DPI Projectors

At the request of numerous customers, Digital Projection has launched a new, optional extended warranty program for all of our projector/lens systems. There are two cost structures for these extended warranties.

  • The first defines the additional cost per year for projectors employed in standard use applications – that is, a maximum of 40 hours of operation per week.

  • The second defines the additional cost per year for projectors employed in high use and 24/7 applications – that is, more than 40 hours per week.

DPI Projectors Shine At 2006 Academy Awards for 9th Consecutive Year

The legacy of DP's LIGHTNING Professional Series continues as a fleet of the flagship staging projectors was once again selected for the 2006 Academy Awards. Eight LIGHTNING 28sx+ projectors were employed by Senovva, the California based staging company responsible for the elaborate display, for the 78 th installment of the prestigious awards show.

Two LIGHTNING 28sx+ projectors were utilized for the “movie palace” screen, which featured an evolving graphic display of movie posters. Two additional L28sx+ projectors were employed for the rolling screens which were featured for the musical number supporting the film “Crash.” And yet another two LIGHTNING 28sx's supported the house screens in the opera boxes, showing graphics and clip packages during the show.

Frank McMinn, president of Senovva, Inc. and account executive for the Academy Awards staging said “DPI's LIGHTNING 28sx+ is a workhorse projector that, along with DP's earlier models have shined in their ability to support the Oscars over the past nine years. We repeatedly employ the LIGHTNING Professional series for its unmatched reliability when producing a live, worldwide broadcast event such as the Academy Awards.”

DPI Gears Up for infoComm 2006

With less than three months until DPI's biggest trade show, advance preparations are already being implemented. Our customers can count on a great exhibit this year with a few surprises to make infoComm 2006 one of the best DP events for our Dealers, Reps, and End Users.

We can't disclose all the show secrets, but here are a few reasons why the Digital Projection booth should be a MUST SEE for anyone visiting the show in Orlando this June.

DPI will be represented both in our 3,000 square foot booth, as well as in the Large Venue Gallery. A special home cinema screening room will also be configured in our booth, providing the perfect venue to view our new dVision 1080p! Among the new products to be launched at infoComm this year, count on the unique opportunity to see our entire line of precision displays in one dramatic viewing area!

NSCA & Rep Meeting Wrap-Up

Last week, DPI Manufacturer's Representatives gathered at the NSCA convention in Las Vegas for Digital Projection's annual Rep meeting. Among the topics covered at the meeting, DP's sales and marketing team launched a series of exciting new promotions and outlined the roadmap for Digital Projection's product line for the coming months.

Another tradition of the annual meeting, DP's Chuck Collins & Frank Brady presented Manufacturers Rep awards to the top performers in three categories.

The prestigious award for “Highest Dollar Volume / Rep of the Year” was presented to Sapphire Marketing and accepted by Marla Suttenberg.


The award for "Highest Percentage of Quota Attainment" was earned by Dobbs Stanford Corp and was accepted by Larry O’Neil.


The award for “Highest Growth in Sales” was presented to AV Partners and accepted by Eric Leicht.



In addition to the Rep Awards presentation, all of DP's Reps were introduced to several new programs designed to increase their profitability and expand our market penetration. DP Reps, CLICK HERE to login to your secure area and download the promotional handouts covered at the meeting.

All-In Update

It's hard to believe that only 2 months remain in our All-In Promotion & Tournament. New contestants are submitting claims weekly and our top players continue to steadily increase their stack of chips. Don't forget: The deadline for invoice claims is May 31, 2006. TOURNAMENT UPDATES:

All registered All-In qualifiers must confirm their intention to play in the tournament no later than May 24, 2006.

Stand-ins for the poker tournament at infoComm will be allowed - the designated replacement MUST be an active employee of the represented dealer and DPI must be notified of the contestant change no later than May 24, 2006.

The first round of the All-In Tournament will begin at 5:00pm in Digital Projection's suite at the convention center. All-In qualifying players must arrive no later than 4:45 to sign in and take your seat.

The Church at Brook Hills in Birmingham, AL recently purchased four Mercury 5000 HD projectors from DPI dealer Auditoria. Two sets of double-stacked Mercury 5000 HD's deliver full high definition IMAG to each 16 'x 9' side screen.

The 2,800 seat worship space features advanced rigging control as each screen is fully motorized, in addition to the truss supporting the projectors. Later this month, the entire display will be reconfigured as all four Mercury 5000 HD's will project an astounding 18,000 ANSI lumens onto a 14' x 24' center screen.

All-In Texas Hold 'Em Poker Tips

Bluffing

Bluffing is an important part of poker and it is a valuable tool for poker players. Bluffing can often win pots, and it allows players to create deception and uncertainty in the minds of their opponents.

  • Bluffing works better against a smaller number of opponents, and often will not succeed against a larger number of opponents.
  • Do not bluff players who tend to call too much. Bluffs tend to succeed better against players who are more willing to make a fold.
  • Be careful of bluffing too much, as opponents will soon catch on and will fail to be fooled.

Observe Your Opponents

A winning poker player will always be observing and watching their fellow poker players. Analyzing an opponent's play allows a player insight into what hand their competitors may hold. This allows the observant player to make better decisions, and ultimately win more pots and lose fewer chips.

  • A player should pay attention to other players and their actions even when not involved in the hand.
  • A player should remember that their opponents might be watching them and so vary their own play occasionally.

Tech Tip: Building The Ultimate Digital System

Over the past fifteen years, digital media has continued to evolve and has proven to be a superior medium for viewing or listening to various sources when compared to analog formats. In order to experience the dramatic advantages of digital sources, one must strive to eliminate the use of analog devices throughout the entire signal path. While eliminating all analog sources and devices may have been difficult in the past, today's advanced technology makes it easier than ever to build the ultimate digital system.

To begin our design, one must understand the components that comprise a basic media system.

For example, a complete projection system will consist of the following elements:

Media

(DVD, WM10, Quicktime, etc.)

Source device

(DVD player, WMC, Mac, etc.)

Transmission equipment

(Cables, DA's, switchers, etc.)

Display device

(Projector, etc.)

The following explores each element in detail and further explains the digital alternatives to analog sources and devices.

Digital Media

Currently, Digital Media is available in many different formats, each varying in quality and size.

One of the most common digital media formats, but often the lowest quality, is the DVD. The NTSC based DVD discs use MPEG2 compression, which depending on encoding, can produce artifacts that are visible within the images on screen.

The newest evolution of DVD media is high definition, high capacity DVD's. These new format discs (either HD-DVD or Blueray) will offer high definition resolution, and employ a more advanced compression algorithm called MPEG4.

Other digital media can also be found on the internet, usually posted as Windows Media and Quicktime movie files. These formats currently use MPEG2, and H.264, but MPEG4 based material in these formats will be emerging very soon.

MiniDV and DVC-Pro are digital formats found in digital camcorders.

For professional applications, D5 and HD-CAM are common.

Digital Source Playback

In order to accurately deliver your digital content into the projector, your playback device must support digital output. Playback devices that use DVI, HDMI, IEEE1394 (Firewire), USB, SDI, and HD-SDI are all capable of providing digital output signals. The first four of these digital output types can be found in many consumer devices. Professional playback devices may include any combination of the digital outputs in this list.

Digital Transmission

The term ”transmission" refers to the path by which the signal travels from source to display. Transmission hardware consists of cables, distribution amplifiers, and switchers/routers. Digital Projection offers many of the system accessories required to create a true digital transmission architecture.

Digital Display Device

The last link in the signal chain is the display device. The integrity of the digital signal can only be maintained by a display that has one or more digital inputs in formats that are appropriate for the relevant sources and digital distribution hardware.

Benefits of an all-digital system:

  1. Digital media performs consistently for an expected life of 100+ years.
  2. Zero analog artifacts, normally introduced by analog circuits in analog sources, transmission devices and displays.
  3. Digital cabling, especially fiber, does not induce noise or any degradation to the digital signal.
  4. No effects on the quality of image are created from digital switching and signal routing.
  5. Digital display reproduces imagery as a true reference of the incoming signal, equal to the stored media quality.

9 Years


Mike Akridge – One of DPI's founding 5 associates, Mike's role as VP of Technical operations provides a great venue to showcase his diversity of skills. Beyond assuring our customers and products receive DP's absolute attention to detail, Mike is also a seasoned systems integrator, configuring some of his best work at DP's INFOCOMM exhibit every year. We always sense Mike's presence just prior to his arrival at the office – the thunderous rumbling that emanates from our parking lot as he pulls up on is 900CC Victory “Vegas” street cruiser. One tough ride for a DPI veteran.


Chuck Collins – Another one of DPI's founding associates, Chuck is a relationship creating and solution generating machine, benefiting from 20+ years of cultivating business friends and sales of all types in the projection industry. Everyone who works with Chuck knows him well for his warm smile, rapid attention to customer service, and slightly twisted sense of humor and style. If you have ever seen Chuck at a trade show, dressed for success in his bright red blazer – you know exactly what we mean!


Lynne Smith – Still, yet another member of DP's founding team, from day one, Lynne was tasked with providing administrative support to Digital Projection's senior staff, while also keeping our many sales and marketing activities organized. From the management of our demo fleet logistics to running our trade-show events and managing key DP suppliers, it is hard to think of a DP event or project that Lynne does not touch. When not demonstrating her multi-tasking prowess at the office, she is the ever enthusiastic animal lover, with an especially warm heart for mans best friend.
