The sale of a Mercury gv projector, 1.5 – 1.8:1 lens and spare lamp module totals $15,775.00 in DP invoice value. DP will round all invoices up to the nearest $1000 when awarding spiffs and chips, thus, the sale of this system is rounded to $16000. In this example, the dealer sales associate is awarded $160.00 in cash (16 x $10) as well as 16 thousand dollars worth of All-In chips for the All In Tournament .

DP's DVI and DigiLink Distribution Accessories

As most systems integrators and stagers can testify, signal distribution via DVI (Digital Visual Interface) is increasing in use. The reasons are simple; Digital sources with DVI outputs are becoming more common, nearly all digital displays now incorporate DVI inputs, and the image quality benefits of a 100% digital signal path from the source to the display are simply too significant to ignore.

In the past, the primary challenge in designing signal distribution via DVI was managing DVI signal quality over long distance cable runs, and managing the switching of multiple DVI sources to multiple displays in bigger systems. Fortunately, these challenges are mostly now in the past.

Today, there are a variety of companies promoting DVI distribution accessories, switchers and long-run cables. When configured correctly, DVI distribution can provide all the flexibility of analog distribution, but with the flawless quality that can only be delivered by a 100% all-digital signal path.

Driven by the high quality imaging expectations of our customers, Digital Projection conducts exhaustive testing of DVI distribution hardware and cables, to identify products capable of delivering transparent input connectivity to our precision displays. All of these “DP Approved” DVI and DigiLink distribution accessories are available to our customers, and can be found in our published pricing.

Digital Projection's DVI distribution product lineup includes:

•  Single-link fiber cables, from 30' – 330', with molded connectors

•  HDCP compliant DVI distribution amplifiers (1 x 2 and 1 x 5)

•  HDCP compliant DVI switchers (2 x 1 and 4 x 1)

•  HDCP compliant DVI matrix switchers (9 x 9 and 18 x 18)

In addition, our lineup will soon include:

•  Removable-connector fiber cables, from 30'-330' – perfect for pulling through conduit or walls in existing venues

•  Custom length fiber optic cables (special order)

•  Multi format, digital and analog source switchers, with image processing and DVI output.

In addition to the DVI system products we offer, Digital Projection has developed strong expertise in the design of DVI distribution systems for high-resolution applications. As an example, at INFOCOMM 2005, DP employed our own DVI hardware and cable products to distribute nearly 20 sources to the 18 projectors we displayed in our booth and in our exhibit in the Large Venue Gallery.

VIP 1000

Digital Projection is proud to announce a partnership with Silicon Optix on our new external video scaler and input processor, the VIP 1000. Suitable for use with all Digital Projection displays, the VIP 1000 utilizes Terenax technology, previously available only in $50K and up processors, but now packaged in an affordable and user friendly solution. Powered by Silicon Optix's new Realta chip-set with HQV processing, key features and benefits include:

  • True 1080i de-interlacing (4 field processing to preserve original content)
  • Multi directional diagonal filter with 10 bit interpolation to removes jaggies without reducing image sharpness
  • Adaptive noise reduction
  • True 10 bit processing from input to output
  • Mosquito noise reduction
  • e-warp geometry correction
  • Fully adjustable audio delay
  • Output settings from 480P to 1080P DVI or Analog
  • Inputs include DVI, SDI, Component, RGB, S-video, and Composite

All these exciting features are delivered in a package that is just one rack unit high. Digital Projection's new VIP 1000 processor will work with all existing and previously released DP projectors and provides a variety of image adjustments to improve the quality of any video source. In fact, the lower quality the video source, the more imaging benefits the VIP 1000 will deliver.

DP's full launch of the VIP 1000 will take place at CEDIA, with shipments commencing shortly thereafter.


Mid 2005 Rep Performance Update

The first half of 2005 is in the books and it is time for a brief review of our year-to-date Manufacturer Rep performance. Overall, Digital Projection had a very strong first-half of 2005, and we are generally pleased with the efforts that most of our Reps have put forth.

With respect to the top performers: Our standout commercial Rep for 2005 as of June 30th, is Sapphire Marketing. Marla and her team have exceeded their DP target for year to date sales and look to blow away their full year number, long before the December 31st rolls around! From our perspective, Sapphire's success comes from the broad mix of DP products they sell through the ever-increasing list of DP dealers they directly cultivate and support. 

Our standout Home Cinema Rep for 2005 as of June 30th, is Eric Leicht and his company, AV Partners. Eric's YTD success with DP stems from his specific expertise in the home systems market, and absolute focus on delivering the best solutions to his growing dealer base.

Interestingly, both Sapphire and AV partners were our "Reps of the Year" for 2004. We are sorry to report, there is a very big delta between our top performing reps and the rest of the pack.

Isn't someone going to step up and challenge them?

For our commercial Reps, Digital Projection has worked to provide you with the key tools for success: The newest and highest quality products available, reduced dealer costs,  increased dealer margins, and an incredible year-long promotion - the "All-In" program. Of course, we also provide another significant resource - our very attentive and active regional sales managers.

DP Receives Awards

Digital Projection is receiving critical acclaim after showing new products at infoComm 2005. Electronic House magazine has acknowledged DP with their Product of the Year award for the iVision HD-7. The iVision HD-7 will be featured in the September issue of Electronic House magazine.

Additionally, the online publication rAVe awarded DP a "Best of infoComm" award for the introduction of the LIGHTNING 35HD-T, specifically referencing the projector's 3D compatibility and 2K resolution. rAVe also credited Digital Projection with the "Best Projection Display" award at infoComm for the large blended array featured at the show.







Cedia 2005: a Benchmark Year

This year, over 25 thousand people will make their way to America's heartland, Indianapolis, to view the latest in custom home electronics at CEDIA Expo. This will be Digital Projection's fifth year exhibiting at CEDIA, and it promises to be our most exciting year yet. Traditionally, CEDIA has been a time for DPI to carefully expand our presence in the high-end residential marketplace by offering a broader line of precision projection solutions specifically tailored for home integration.

This year at CEDIA 2005, Digital Projection will offer many new products. Our low-to-mid range will be dramatically extended with displays that offer excellent capabilities for the budget minded customer. In the mid and high range, we will continue to offer the most dramatic solutions for dynamic home entertainment - including the most stunning 3 chip 1080p solutions in the industry! Handy Formulas for Projectionists

Here is a list of simple formulas every projectionist and projection venue designer should have at their disposal. Glossary of Formulas

Throw Ratio (Distance from Projector to Screen):
Focal Length (Throw Distance) = Screen Width X Lens Throw Ratio

Throw Ratio when using an Anamorphic Lens Adapter ( Anamorphic lenses reduce throw ratio (or increase image width) by their magnification) factor:
Throw ratio = Throw distance /(screen width/anamorphic ratio)

Formula to calculate Projector lumens:
Lumens = Incident Lux X Screen area in sq. meters
or
Lumens = Incident Lux X (screen area in sq. ft. / 10.56)

Screen Illumination:
Foot Lamberts = (Lumens / Screen Area in sq. ft) X Screen Gain

Total Environmental Dynamic Range:
Projector Ft. L / (Projector black level + Ft L of ambient light on screen)

To calculate Screen Aspect Ratios:
Aspect Ratio = Horizontal resolution / Vertical resolution
or
Aspect Ratio = Horizontal dimension / Vertical dimension

To calculate screen Height, Width and Diagonal based on common Aspect Ratios:
Ratio W x H Height Width Diagonal

•  1.78:1 (HD) = 16 x 9 W / 1.78 H x 1.78 W x 1.1473

•  1.85:1 (Flat) = 37 x 20 W / 1.85 H x 1.85 W x 1.1367

•  2.35:1 (Scope) = 47 x 20 W / 2.35 H x 2.35 W x 1.0868
