The NYPD Command and Emergency Operations Center

Though most well-known for the critical role it has played in the its management of emergencies and major events, the New York Police Department Command and Emergency Operations Center (EOC) has been a very useful tool for the Department's tactical and strategic planning.

Most notable are the Comstat, Trafficstat and Narcstat programs instituted by ex-Mayor Rudolph Giuliani. Many experts attribute the City's dramatically lower crime rate during ex-Mayor his administration to the successful creation and implementation of these programs.

Overseen by Detective Ray Blaize and his six-person staff, the NYPD entrusted the installation of the EOC's AV equipment to Excel Media Systems, Inc. (New York, NY). Excel Media and Detective Blaize chose HIGHlite 6000Dsx projectors for the Center's 3 x 1 rear-projection array located at the front of the room, a HIGHlite 6000Dsx mounted on the ceiling (see above) for a front-projection screen located on the room's rear wall, a MERCURY 5000gv for the Center's Executive Command Center, and an iVision sx for a conference room.
