iVision 20
We are excited to announce an addition to our iVision family of products, the new iVision 20 series. The iVision 20 series was created to compliment the iVision HD and SX+ series with products at more affordable price points. Like the standard iVision displays, the iVision 20 projectors are available with either HD2+ (DC3) or SX+ DMD's, offering the highest native resolution available for 4X3 and 16X9 1-chip DLP formats.
The iVision 20 HD produces an impressive 4000:1 contrast ratio and a maximum light output of 1200 lumens, while the SX+ provides a bright 2500 lumens with a maximum contrast of 2500:1. Both new projectors offer vertical lens shift, an exciting option typically found only in much more expensive projectors. With vertical lens shift, the projector can be mounted anywhere from the center of the screen, to ½ the screen height above or below screen center (3/5 screen height on the HD). This amazing feature renders the iVision 20 series powerfully flexible installation products for their class.
The iVision 20 HD, with it's small size, quiet operation, and lens shift capability, offers an excellent solution for budget minded home theaters. The similarly equipped but higher lumen iVision 20 sx+ provides a great solution for home media applications. Standard inputs include DVI, Component, RGB, Composite, and S-Video. The iVision 20 series displays will co-exist with the current iVision and begin shipping the end of 05'. You can see the product in our booth at CEDIA '05 in Indianapolis Sept. 9 – 11.Pricing / Product News
With the introduction of our new iVision 20 series, Digital Projection’s product range has taken a big step into broader market opportunities. As exciting as these new entry-level products are for us, we constantly work to innovate and position our entire product lineup, such that DP precision displays always provide the absolute best-in-class value.
Although our new Home Cinema list and dealer pricing won’t be announced until CEDIA, it is fair to say that along with the new iVision 20 series products, notable re-positioning of a number of existing DP models will occur. Our goal is to extend your ability to promote DP solutions into a growing range of customers and applications. As technology evolves and engages more customers, it is vital we all participate in the resulting market growth.
So, if you will be with us at CEDIA, be sure to stop by our booth, # 1019, to get a copy of our new, September 9, 2005 home cinema price sheet. If you can’t make it to the show, be on the lookout for our email announcing that DP’s new Home Cinema List and Dealer Price sheets are available for your review and download on our secure web site.
CEDIA Preview
Although DP’s booth at CEDIA is not as large as we prefer, we have engineered a lot of action into the 20 x 30 location.
Strategically positioned between the main hall and the dome, guests to our exhibit will be greeted by a brilliant, 16’ wide, 3-mega-pixel digital marquee. Powered by 3 Mercury 5000HD’s, an array of computer and HD sources and a Vista Spyder processor, the Marquee is a live and powerful demonstration of what we term the Mega Media Wall – a multi window large scale desktop, designed to deliver the ultimate multi-user media room experience.
Beyond the Digital Marquee, show attendees will enter DP’s intimate theater, for a private screening of a selection of our precision home cinema displays. Featured products will include:
- The amazingly flexible dVision HD – our single-chip, dual lamp, dual color wheel home cinema display, producing up to 6000:1 contrast and 2500 ANSI lumens.
- The highly acclaimed Mercury HD – Ultra quiet and compact with the multi-billion color display palate that is only delivered by our exclusive 3-chip DLP solutions.
- The unparalleled HIGHlite 10000 HD-R – the reference display for the crown jewels of home cinemas. At 2048 x 1080 resolution and with custom light output up to 10000 ANSI lumens, the 10K HD is the only native 2K resolution 3-chip DLP display available today, specifically tailored for elite Home Cinemas.
Each of these featured projectors will be demonstrated in solo, displaying an array of HD content on a variety of screens of changing aspect ratios. Plan on investing at least a half-hour with the DP team at CEDIA, studying the performance of our exhibited projectors and reviewing our newest products and pricing.
Again, our exhibit will be located in Booth # 1019. We look forward to meeting you there!
Dealer Spotlight

Congratulations to DPI Home Cinema Dealer Mark Ontiveros, President of Audio Images in Tustin, California, for being selected for the cover of CE Pro's August issue. Audio Images became a DPI dealer this past year and has had some early success with our Mercury HD series of projectors. We look forward to a long and successful business relationship with Mark and his staff.
Ontiveros, like many custom installers, started out in the high-end car audio business. But after becoming the president of Audio Images, he's led the company to $3 million in revenue for 2004 and to No. 68 on the CE Pro 100. Along with dedicated screening rooms, Audio Images specializes in both residential and commercial integrated systems. It has set up a showroom (Ontiveros nicknamed it the "lab") where, by appointment only, potential clients can experience a typical home theater. A dedicated audiophile told Ontiveros, after spending six hours in there, that it's the best sounding theater he's ever heard. The "lab" cost only $250,000 to build.
The showroom is used to woo new clients, most of whom are new home buyers recommended by builders and architects. He says that builders interacting with and suggesting things to home buyers helps him. "All day long that's all they do. Who better to refer us business?" Ninety percent of the jobs that Audio Images does are in new construction, and everyone is happy -- the builder, the client and the custom installer. "We give them a great home theater that the builder provides when he sells the house," says Ontiveros.

TECH TIPS
How to Use the VIP 1000 to Simplify Your Installation
Digital Projection's new VIP 1000 Image Processor not only improves your projected image, it simplifies your installation.
The single rack-unit tall processor comes complete with mounting ears so installation is easy in any standard equipment rack. Once installed, short cables are run from the application's sources directly to the VIP 1000. All inputs are scaled and converted to a digital output, selected by the user to match the native resolution of the projector or target display. This output can be distributed to the display via Digital Projection's loss-free DigiLink fiber optic DVI cables, which assure maximum quality and are available in lengths up to 330'. Of course the flexible VIP 1000 also has analog outputs for conventional RGB or Component cabling to the projector or other displays. Either solution allows the integrator to simplify system cabling inside the rack, and then do a single “home run” to the projector hanging from the ceiling or sitting in the back of the room.
The VIP 1000 also has Toslink and S/PDIF audio inputs to correct for video delay when extensive signal processing is applied, assuring the video remains synchronized with the audio, and reducing the need for additional audio delay circuits. The VIP 1000's custom formatting allows the integrator to vary the amount of video processing per input, allowing poorer quality sources to be fully processed while limiting the processing applied to higher quality sources. A dynamic noise reduction mode actually samples up to 4 frames of video and automatically sets noise reduction based upon the sampled video signal. The added software features of the VIP 1000 combined with reduced cabling requirement, make for a simplified yet higher quality installation. See the new VIP 1000 in operation at our booth at CEDIA 05' in Indianapolis Sept. 9 – 11.
