DP at CEDIA 2011 – Videos, Photos and More

DP's New Product Reveal

This year's CEDIA Expo marked a new milestone for DP, as our 60' x 60' CEDIA exhibit was the largest in Digital Projection's history. We also worked with a record number of partners who were relying on DP to present their large scale imagery at the show.

Add these details to the numerous classes DP's Ken Eagle taught in Indy, plus our CEDIA party sponsorship and participation in the Future Tech Pavilion, and 2011 was, without a doubt, the largest CEDIA Expo in company history. If you missed our CEDIA recap, click the links below to view the full recap, videos and photos from the event.

M-Vision Cine 230 Projector Wins "Top Pick" in Home Theater Magazine

DP is Growing…Again!

Widely respected for its coverage of precision audio and video products, Home Theater Magazine's Tom Norton recently reviewed Digital Projection's M-Vision Cine 230 home theater projector. Awarding the $6,995 Cine 230 with a "Top Pick" designation for its big-screen brightness, resolution and color, Norton remarked, "...I found the 230-HC's positive attributes—its big, bright, sharp, colorful, and vivid images—impossible to resist. It's an easy Home Theater Top Pick recommendation."

DP is Growing…Again!

You've likely noticed the many new DP Team members we've added and announced in previous newsletters. DP's steady growth continues, and we'd like to introduce a few new welcome additions to the team.

DP is Growing…Again!
Noel McCoy joins DP as warehouse manager, having managed warehouse and distribution center operations for numerous manufacturers in Georgia. "Noel brings a deep level of focus and organization to the extensive new warehouse facility, and he's a great addition to the team," said Mike Akridge, vp of operations for DP.

Also new to the DP team is Dana Forehand, joining the Marketing and Communications department as graphic designer. Dana brings experience on both design and communications fronts to the team, with a degree in graphic design and Masters in Communication & Information Management. Michael Bridwell, director of marketing for DP, commented, "I couldn't be happier with the contributions that Dana has already made to the team. We've only begun to apply Dana's obvious talents to our many needs as a company, and I think her contribution will soon be obvious."

Finally, Brian Pahlas has joined DP's application support group as our newest Applications Engineer. Although Brian is new to DP, he is not new to projection. In fact, Brian comes to DP with 14 years of technical experience, focused on the service and application of projectors in a diversity of markets and systems. Like many members of our team, Brian is already a projection veteran, with skills and knowledge that will help us to provide timely solutions for all of our customers. Brian will work alongside Mark Stephens and Ken Eagle, as our applications team expands the support services, training and project resources we offer. Given his experience, we expect Brian will become an expert in the nuances of the DP product line very quickly.

Please help us welcome Noel, Dana and Brian as you speak to them in your daily exchanges with DP's headquarters. We're honored to have them on our team!

HTSA's Fall Wrap-up in Denver

HTSA Fall Wrapup

Change is in the air for the Home Technology Specialists of America, a cooperative of some of the country's most experienced custom retailers and systems integrators. DP team members George Walter, VP of home cinema, and Michael Bridwell, director of marketing, attended the HTSA Fall Event in Denver, Colorado hoping to see a united group in the wake of Richard Glikes' departure. After 15 years at the helm of the group, it was difficult to imagine how the fall event would transpire without Glikes as master of ceremonies. Thankfully, the HTSA board enlisted a crowd-sourced approach to relaying information throughout the three-day event, with at least 5 board members taking on speaking duties.

The mood amongst most HTSA dealers was one of cautious optimism, as many seemed to be quite happy with their current workload. Given the economic climate of the past two years, the shift in mood was a welcome change of pace. It cannot be a coincidence that this group is experiencing an overall positive shift, as idea sharing is central to the group's philosophy. Every session hosted by DP, which included one-on-ones and a group session, revealed eye-opening exchanges, as well as numerous partnerships that bode well for 2012.

Many thanks to the HTSA board and operations team, the sponsoring vendor partners and, of course, the dealers of HTSA for making the Denver event one to remember.

The theater received the award based upon technological innovation, creative solutions to installation challenges, and overall design elements. "We appreciate these awards and the opportunities with our customers," says Lance Anderson, president of Admit One. "In the past, these awards were typically reserved for well-known system designers in California, New York or Florida. Within DP's Product Line: High Brightness vs. High Contrast Projectors – an Overview

What is a High Brightness Projector?
A High Brightness projector is DP's standard configuration of the projector when it is built. There is no aperture installed in the light path within the projector's optics, or within the lens.

Where do you use High Brightness Projectors?
A major perk to a High Brightness projector is that it can be used in most applications, and delivers maximum lumens to tackle larger screens or venues with ambient light. Here are a few recommendations on appropriate uses for a High Brightness projector:
  • Applications with ambient light
  • Applications with larger screens sizes, where a lower lumen projector will not provide adequate screen brightness
  • Applications that demand specific screen brightness levels to be achieved
Note: Screen brightness is determined by size of the image, gain of the screen surface and light output of the
projector. Throw distance and lens throw ratio do not determine brightness

  • Applications with extreme screen sizes or large audiences - true large venue
  • Conference rooms and residential media rooms – most of these venues include some level of ambient light
